Man hurt in fire is arrested after police find guns and ammo in flat

A MAN who was injured in a fire has been arrested after police discovered firearms and ammunition in a flat.

The Met discovered the weapons after being called to reports of a house fire in Idonia Street, Deptford, at 12.39pm today (Wednesday).

A 63-year-old was arrested for possession of firearms and has since been released on bail.

Officers and forensics teams were seen walking in and out of a flat in Maple House earlier this afternoon.

A spokesman for the Met Police said: “Police were called at 12:39hrs on Wednesday, 5 November to Idonia Street, Lewisham after reports of a house fire. Ammunition and firearms were subsequently found within the address.

“Officers attended and a 63-year-old man was taken to hospital with fire-related injuries. After being discharged, he was arrested for possession of firearms and has since been released on bail. 

“A police cordon is set to remain in place while enquiries continue. 

“The fire is not being treated as suspicious at this stage.”
